Oil company 'adopts' Taman Jurong rental blocks

In collaboration with South West Community Development Council (CDC)’s Adopt-A-Rental-Block programme, Exxon Mobile organised a free buffet lunch for 450 low income families yesterday. The People’s Association (PA) wanted to engage half a million senior citizens through its Wellness Programme by 2014. Launched in 2008, the programme encouraged those aged 50 and above to stay physically and mentally active, and was currently available in 42 constituencies with 70,000 participants. Mr Lim Boon Heng, PA’s deputy chairman said at a media briefing that in the last few years, active ageing programmes had been done to change mindsets, and the biggest hurdle was understanding what the men want. Mdm Yeo Chwee Fong, a retired nurse/volunteer at the Paya Lebar Wellness Programme also spoke on her experience as a volunteer.
